Next Metallica Record To Be 'Heavier Version' Of The Black Album

Thrash metal titans Metallica have teased fans by revealing that their next studio album will be like their hugely famous seminal ‘Black Album’ – except heavier.

The self-titled record dealt out some of their biggest hits to date, including ‘Sad But True’, ‘Nothing Else Matters’, and ‘Enter Sandman’, and is considered by most hardcore Metallica fans to be one of, if not the best album from the group. In recent times, the band’s releases have taken on a different sound – something which has far from pleased fans, who’ve have made it clear that their older sound is the one they fell in love with.

So, in an attempt to appease their fans, the band announced that they’d be performing the album in its entirety when they take on Download Festival’s mainstage this summer – and they’ve now told them that their next record will be a heavier version of the 1991 LP.

Guitarist Kirk Hammett told the Rolling Stone: “If 'Death Magnetic' was a logical successor to '…And Justice for All', the next album will be a heavier 'Black Album'. We're not going to the depths of complexity that we did for 'Death Magnetic'. The stuff we're coming up with is more groove-oriented, a heavier version of what we were doing in the early 90s.”

Drummer Lars Ulrich continued on to say that they’d be writing shorter, snappier songs for what will be their 10th studio album, telling the magazine: “When people talk about the old stuff, they think 'Justice'. But look at 'Harvester of Sorrow' on that album. It's a fairly simple five-minute song. And 'Fuel' is an absolute scorcher live. Right now, I'm thinking shorter, more to-the-point.”

Metallica’s performance at Download Festival is one that fans simply cannot miss. If you want tickets to the iconic metal festival, check the dates and details below – and find yourself the cheapest tickets available to you.
