Grinderman’s Warren Ellis Reveals New Dirty Three Track ‘Rising Below’ – Listen Now

Wednesday, 18 January 2012 Written by Rob Sleigh

Following the recent announcement of Dirty Three’s eighth album ‘Toward the Low Sun’, which is due for release on 27th February, the trio have unveiled a new track ‘Rising Below’. The song is the first to be taken from the new album and is available to listen to below. ‘Toward the Low Sun’ is Dirty Three’s first album in seven years following 2005’s ‘Cinder’.

Dirty Three have also been added to the line-up of ATP I’ll Be Your Mirror on Saturday 26th May alongside curator Mogwai and Mudhoney. They will also perform at June’s No Direction Home Festival, which features the likes of The Low Anthem, Gruff Rhys and Lanterns On The Lake. See below for tickets to both events.

Speaking about the new album ‘Toward the Low Sun’, Warren Ellis said: “Dirty Three has always been about the way we play together and feed off each other. We wanted this one to be a return to the more improvised and instinctive approach of the earlier recordings.”

In addition to his work with Dirty Three, Ellis is also a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He also makes up part of the Bad Seeds’ side-project Grinderman, who announced their split towards the end of last year at Australia’s Meredith Music Festival. The band are now likely to continue their work as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Grinderman recently announced the release of ‘Grinderman 2 RMX’ - a collection of remixes from their most recent album - which is due out on 12th March.
