Etta James Sales See Massive Surge Following Death

Sales of late singing superstar Etta James albums have exploded since her death, with fans reminiscing songs from their favourite records.

James passed away last week at the side of her husband Artis Miller and her two sons Donto and Sametto, after a long battle with leukaemia, hepatitis-C, kidney disease and dementia. But since then, sales of Etta James albums have risen 378% - securing her highest ever chart position in the Billboard Charts.

Her best-of album, ‘The Best of Etta James - 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection’, rose from #162 to #46 after weekly sales rose from the previous week’s record of 6,000, to a much higher 30,000 copies.

The singer also had her biggest surge in digital downloads too, with 118,000 copies of James material sold online – 63,000 of which were of her most famous hit ‘At Last’.

A public viewing event for James will be held tomorrow in Los Angeles, followed by her private funeral on Saturday. A number of musicians and acts will perform at the funeral, though its unknown exactly who will be there.

Long-time friend and manager Lupe de Leon released this statement following her death: “This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world. She was a true original who could sing it all - her music defied category. I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her always.”
