Comedian, actor, and Tenacious D star Jack Black has hit out at Courtney Love after she claimed that The Muppets had desecrated the memory of her late Nirvana, with Black describing the Hole star’s claims as ‘absurd’.
Love, who is known for her wild lifestyle and vocalised opinions, told press that she was disgusted at the use of Nirvana classic ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ in the latest Muppet movie, and claimed that the move had ‘raped Cobain’s legacy’ – adding that no-one asked her for permission to use the song. Love owns all the rights to Cobain’s music and can apparently decide whether the song can be used by anyone hoping to use it for commercial purposes.
But Black, who was speaking to E! News, thought otherwise, and when asked by the site if he agreed with Love’s comments, he replied: “I beg to differ. That's absurd, absurd, absurd. I personally hold no one in higher esteem in the world of rock. Kurt Cobain for me is at the top of the pyramid. He was the king… When he died it was sort of the end of rock.”
