Top marketing experts have claimed that eccentric pop superstar Lady Gaga earned around one third of her total income last year ($90million) through social networking site Twitter – with the news coming after Gaga became the first person to hit 20,000,000 followers.
Writers in the Wall Street Journal have come to the conclusion that Gaga has made around $30,000,000 from the site – just by interacting with and re-tweeting her fans, who are allegedly more likely to purchase her music rather than illegally download it because of her Twitter personality.
Manager of marketing John Bonini told the paper: “She really engages them and re-tweets stuff they say as if she was one of them.” He went on to tell them by simply having such a humongous following on the site, she increases her ‘earning potential’ – multiplying the amount of money she earns through networking.
Twitter may be one of the only mediums we’ll be able to reach Lady Gaga soon, though – after it was revealed that she could he about to begin a total media blackout. The star will reportedly tell Oprah Winfrey during an appearance on her show tomorrow that she ‘does not intend to speak to anyone for a very long time’ – adding that there would be “No press, no television, if my mom calls and says, 'Did you hear about it…' I shut it all off. I don't read a damn thing [the press write about me].”
