Bombay Bicycle Club 'Worried' That New Album Won't Be As 'Personal' As Previous Records

London-based indie rockers Bombay Bicycle Club have confessed that they’re worried about their next album – because they think their success may cause their new material to become ‘less personal’.

The band have become a big name in the indie scene after the success of their second album ‘Flaws’, which was followed-up by last year’s ‘A Different Kind of Fix’, and have been described as a band capable of headlining big festivals in their future by Festival Republic don Melvin Benn. But, while the band appreciate their success, they know it’s added a whole lot more pressure on them to put out a strong new album – and that’s something which worries frontman Jack Steadman.

“As you get bigger and bigger, you get tempted to just try and write stuff that you know will appeal to loads and loads of people,” he told NME. “And then you realise that the music becomes less personal to you, and I get quite worried.

“I just think I'm worrying about it, to be honest. Whatever we do, I don't think anyone things of us as that big arena rock band. We're all just very clumsy and awkward onstage and I think people think it's endearing, because they can picture themselves in the same position. I think people like to see a band that can't really handle it that well.”

He went on to talk about a new track the band had in store, saying: “There's a sense of longing in it, and musically it's very sample based. It's sort of taking off where 'Shuffle' and 'Lights Out, Words Gone' [left off] – it's kind of a cross between those two songs. It's quite mid-tempo. I played it to a lot of people and they said it reminds them of Washed Out.”
