Damon Albarn Invites Noel Gallagher To Collaborate On Africa Express Project

Damon Albarn, frontman of Britpop icons Blur and cartoon hip-hop collective Gorillaz, has invited none other than Noel Gallagher – the same man who once hoped that Albarn would 'catch AIDs and die' – to collaborate with him on his Africa Express project, which restarts in September.

ImageSpeaking to Shortlist, Albarn spoke his praises of Noel and his new band The High Flying Birds, with which Noel has found incredible success, and even said that Oasis handled their fame 'much better' than how he and Blur did when the two band's dominated the Britpop scene a number of years ago.

When asked whether he'd like to work with Noel, Albarn replied: “Well, why not? He should come on the Africa Express train in September. That’d be a nice chance to collaborate. I never held anything against him, even right in the middle of it. I just kind of admired them in a way; that they were better at handling it all than me. They didn't seem to get too affected by the bullshit.”

Noel is seemingly as up for the idea as Albarn is, and recently told NME: “If I was gonna make a record, it'd be [with] Damon. For a start, he's as mad as a box of frogs. Number two, he'd get loads of hip-hop dudes working on it, which itself would be fucking mental. And number three? It would be a better record.”

If you're a fan of Blur, you can catch them at the Olympics Closing Ceremony in August, alongside New Order and The Specials. For tickets, check the link below.
