The Penelopes Release 'Never Live Another Yesterday' Album Sampler - Listen Now

Hailing from the grey industrial suburbs of Paris, the now east London-based The Penelopes make multi-layered, sparkly indie-pop; a far cry from the gloomy sounds of New Order and Cocteau Twins that soundtracked the pair’s earlier days.

Image'Never Live Another Yesterday' is packed with the bright electronica of tracks like 'Sally In The Galaxy' (the Edwin Van Cleef remix of which has been seeing some heavy dancefloor duty), but its darker British influences are clear throughout. Opening track 'Summer Life' is a nostalgic yearning for the simpler times, it was also remixed by DJ legends Viceroy and Gigamesh and reached Number 5 on The Hype Machine chart! While 'Ray Will Have His Revenge' tells the story of a social outcast’s escape through his music.

The album segues from the darker, Miike Snow-esque piano and ambient vocals of 'Now Now Now' into the frantic, cacophonous instrumental 'The Sweet Song' (Fukushima Mon Amour) and then into the glorious 'Epiphany Part I (A Silent Embrace)'.

Title track 'Never Live Another Yesterday', with its 80s synths and muted guitar riffs is a nod in the direction of the British new-wave The Penelopes grew up with, spliced with the upbeat lo-fi electro-pop that’s become synonymous with their homeland – think Depeche Mode meets The Teenagers (in the best possible way) – and the album concludes with the stunning instrumental 'Epiphany Part II', at times evocative of 90s dance maestro Robert Miles.

Produced by Dan Grech-Marguerat (the man behind Keane’s latest Number 1 album as well as Lana Del Rey, The Vaccines, Scissor Sisters) and The Flight – AKA Alexis Smith & Joe Henson – 'Never Live Another Yesterday' is a collection of anthems for both the lazy sun and dark storms that summer in Paris can bring.
