Snoop Dogg Evolves Into Snoop Lion In New Reggae Career

Hip-hop hero Snoop Dogg has announced that he’s found religion and is apparently undergoing a rather large lifestyle change as of July, but it’s not Christianity, Islam or even Jehovah’s witnesses that have managed to convert the gangsta rapper - it’s the Jamaican Rastafarians who’ve helped Snoop see the light, and he’ll now be singing reggae rather than spitting verses under his new name Snoop Lion.

The drastic change allegedly came after a trip to Jamaica, where Snoop had travelled to produce an album with Diplo. After opening up about some of the more ugly events in his past with Jamaican priests, the superstar was apparently converted and rechristened by them - and has now changed his name to Snoop Lion and his game to reggae. What’s better is, he revealed it all during a press conference in New York, where he performed new tracks such as ‘No Guns Allowed’ alongside his daughter - and also revealed that the whole story of his massive lifestyle mix-up has been turned into a film, which will follow a new album.

“I have always said I was Bob Marley reincarnated,” Snoop explained at the conference. I feel I have always been a Rastafari. I just didn't have my third eye open, but it's wide open right now.”

He went on to talk about his actual conversion to Rastafari, saying: “[‘The High Priest’] looked me in my eyes and said, 'no more. You are... the lion'. There comes a point where you say I done it all, or there isn't much more to do. This was like a rebirth for me. Rap is not a challenge to me. I had enough of that. It's not appealing to me no more. I don't have no challenges. I'm 'Uncle Snoop' in rap. When you get to be an uncle, you need to find a new profession so you can start over and be fresh again. I want to be a kid again.”
