Tony Sly, longtime frontman of iconic punk outfit No Use for a Name, has passed away age of 41.
The singer, who’s also an established solo star, died on July 31st, though news of his death has only just begun to circulate. The news was broken by the band’s record label Fat Wreck Records and his bandmate Matt Riddle, who told of the sad news via No Use for a Name’s Facebook page.
Fat Wreck wrote: “It is with great sorrow that we must say goodbye to Tony Sly of No Use For A Name. We received a call earlier today of his passing, and are devastated. We have lost an incredible talent, friend, and father - one of the true greats.”
Tributes to the singer and guitarist have been pouring in from big name punk bands across the globe, with NOFX’s Fat Mike saying: “One of my dearest friends and favourite songwriters has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed.”
Rise Against also left their condolences, saying: “We are truly saddened to hear about the passing of our friend Tony Sly. He was an amazing songwriter and an amazing person. RIP Tony Sly.”
