Scott Weiland, frontman of the Stone Temple Pilots, has revealed that he’s completely open to reforming and fronting supergroup Velvet Revolver, who’ve been on hiatus since 2008.
Velvet Revolver have performed only once - at a benefit gig for the late John O’Brien (a friend of the band) earlier this year - since a massive falling out led to Weiland being kicked out in 2008, after just two albums
The band - which consists of former Guns n Roses stars Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum as well as Wasted Youth’s Dave Kushner and Stone Temple Pilot Scott Weiland - have been subject to many a rumour of a reunion since their split, with Weiland apparently very keen to get the outfit back together.
He told Rolling Stone: “I am completely open to it and I know there are other guys in the band that are completely open to it. There have been some things that have stood in the way that aren't anything that have to do with the band – just other players, agents.
“But now we're sorting through things, and we want to start writing for some big film opportunities that have come our way, and try to set things up the way we set things up when we initially got together.”
He added finally: “I think it's the perfect time for Velvet Revolver to get back together. Slash has done some great things, and I look forward to the opportunity to seeing him on my left and seeing [bassist] Duff – who, in my opinion, is without a doubt one of the greatest rock'n'roll and punk rock bass players of all time. And with Matt and Dave as well, who are just incredible musicians. I think that's exciting to look forward to. It's the old cliché, 'If the gods of rock want it to happen, then it will.'”
While Weiland is evidently keen to get the band back together, the others don’t seem to be as wildly enthusiastic - Slash claimed that Weiland was ‘out of his mind’ if he thought a Velvet Revolver reunion was on the cards.
