Tricky has announced his 15th studio album.
The British trip hop artist and producer will drop 'Different When It’s Silent' on July 17 via his own False Idols label. It marks his first body of work released under his own name since 2020's 'Fall To Pieces', which was followed by music put out under several different aliases, including the collaborative project as Lonely Guest, the 'Fifteen Days' project with producer Mike Theis (as Theis Thaws), and last year's joint record 'Out The Way' with Polish singer Marta Złakowska, all released via False Idols.
Recorded between Tricky's home in France and sessions in Bristol, the album features Bristol singer Mitch Sanders, whose soulful falsetto appears across much of the 14-track record.
"In my mind it was another side project," Tricky said. But after hearing the material, his manager Alan McGee felt the songs clearly belonged on a Tricky record. "I just love making music," Tricky said of his prolific output. "I’m grateful I’ve had the chance to live this life and keep creating."
Alongside the news, Tricky has shared the record's urgent closing track, Out Of Place, which pairs long-time collaborator Marta's restrained vocals with Tricky's raw, punk-inspired delivery.
He'll support the album with a UK and European tour spanning May to September, with support from Marta Złakowska. In the summer, he'll appear at several UK and European festivals, including Green Man in Brecon, Wales, and Forwards Festival in Bristol. Tickets are on sale now.
