3 Doors Down Bassist Charged With ‘Vehicular Homicide By Intoxication’

Monday, 22 April 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell has been charged with ‘vehicular homicide by intoxication’ today, after drunkenly driving his car and causing the death of a 47 year-old man.

Harrell had consumed ‘hard cider’ and a prescription drug known as Lortab prior to driving his car last Friday (April 19th), and ended up crashing his car into Paul Howard Shoulders Jr’s pick-up truck.

Speeding through Hermitage, a suburb in Nashville, Harrell clipped Shoulders’ vehicle - causing it to hit a guardrail, leave the road, and overturn on an embankment, sending Shoulders flying out of the car. It was noted that Shoulders was not wearing his seatbelt.

The man was pronounced dead on arrival to hospital, leaving the police to arrest Harrell - who was also charged with taking controlled substances into the prison, after a search found he was carrying Xanax, Oxycodone, and Oxymorphone.

Billboard reports that police said that the musician ‘showed signs of impairment when he underwent field sobriety tasks’, and that ‘he acknowledged consuming hard cider and taking prescription Lortab’.

A prison official has reportedly claimed that Harrell is currently in custody, with bail set at $100,000. They also said that Harrell would face court on Thursday morning - keep your eyes peeled on Stereoboard for updates on the story.

Nothing has been said by Harrell or any representatives, but a post on the band’s website reads:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Stereoboard also sends it’s thoughts to Shoulders’ family and friends - RIP. Stay with the site to find out future info on the story. What do you think of the news? Let us know in the comment box below.
