The Staves, Mikky Ekko & More Announced As Support At Summer Series At Somerset House

Tuesday, 14 May 2013 Written by Jon Stickler

This year’s edition of Summer Series at Somerset House is set to be the most exciting yet, with an astonishing lineup of musical talent which effortlessly and thrillingly traverses the musical spectrum, from the smooth Brit soul of Jessie Ware to the electro-pop stomp of Goldfrapp, the heart-wrenching country ballads of Band of Horses and the painfully intimate revelations of Lianne La Havas.

Now, with the announcement of the brilliant array of supports, there are even more reasons to get excited about the Summer series this year. First out of the gate, Plan B-endorsed and recent Jools Holland guest Jacob Banks and white hot new Columbia signing Chloe Howl take to the stage before Alex Clare, to get the party started in impeccable fashion. Acclaimed sisterly trio The Staves and North Carolina troubadour Tyler Ramsey will also be must-sees before Band of Horses, while Australian singer-songwriting sensation Matt Corby will open for Lianne La Havas the day after, no doubt wowing audiences with his distinctive and gorgeous strain of balladry, while Tom Hickox will be enthral the crowds the next day with his darkly beautiful folk songs.

Meanwhile, self-described “cinema pop” marvels Milo Greene and Manchester nu-folkster Jo Rose will be hitting the stage with First Aid Kit, acclaimed Icelandic melodicist Asgeir Trausti will cast his gorgeous spell with Of Monsters and Men, while new indie rock darlings Wolf Alice and 19 year old alt.country wunderkind Denai Moore will kick things off before Tom Odell.

Also, playing with Jessie Ware is the rapidly ascendant Mikky Ekko who, apart from appearing on the hit single 'Stay' with Rihanna has also knocked critics for six with his stunning debut single 'Pull Me Down'. The gloriously schizoid He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister will prove an inevitable highlight the next day, just as the darkly ethereal electro pop star Polly Scattergood will before Goldfrapp. To close the festival, Basement Jaxx will be playing alongside the teenage electronic duo of Bondax, set to crossover into the big time with their sun-kissed electronic pop. If you needed any more reasons to anticipate the Summer Series any more, now we have 14!
