Black Sabbath Land First #1 In 43 Years - Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats Confirmed For UK Tour Support

Monday, 17 June 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Heavy metal legends Black Sabbath scored their first #1 in a record breaking 43 years on Sunday, after their new album ‘13’ pipped Beady Eye’s ‘BE’ to the top spot of the UK Albums chart.

Ozzy Osbourne and co. last hit #1 with their sophomore record ‘Paranoid’ back in 1970, an album that is now ranked 6x platinum in the US. Some 43 years later, the band are back at the top of the UK Album chart - as well as the US, Austrian, Finnish, Dutch, and Swiss charts.

The band has broken the record for the longest gap between chart-topping LPs - a record previously held by Rod Stewart, who incidentally holds the #3 spot in this week’s chart with his latest album ‘Time’.

Speaking of the feat, iconic frontman Ozzy has said:

“I'm in shock, the success of this album has blown me off my feet. We've never had a record climb the charts so fast.”

He’s also commented on the possibility of another new Black Sabbath album in the future - revealing:

“I don't know either way. We're still revelling in coming back with this. There probably will be another album, but I don't want to promise anything to anyone. It took us long enough to do this, and we can't wait another 43 years to have another #1. If it comes to pass we don't make another record, then I can rest easily knowing we finished things properly with ‘13’.”

If you’re a fan of the album, then you’ll definitely want to catch the band performing their new material (plus a load of their classic tracks) on their up and coming UK tour - and you’ll be happy to hear that Cambridge psychedelic rock outfit Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats have been lined-up as tour support.

The four-piece recently released their third studio album ‘Mind Control’, and they’re more than ready to warm-up the crowds at the December tour dates.
