Manic Street Preachers Take Legal Action Against EDL For Use Of Hit Single

Friday, 12 July 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Welsh rockers Manic Street Preachers are taking legal action against the EDL - the English Defence League - because the hate group used their track ‘If You Tolerate This Then Your Children Will Be Next’ in one of its campaigns.

According to NME,the group used the track - which ironically features the line ‘So if I can shoot rabbits/Then I can shoot fascists’ - to help promote a Birmingham rally. Unsurprisingly, the band are totally against it and are taking legal action to stop them.

Michael Wongsam, Chair of West Midlands Unite Against Fascism, said:

“We are appalled to discover that the racist and fascist English Defence League has used the anti-fascist song 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next' by the band the Manic Street Preachers…This song takes its title from an anti-fascist slogan used during the Spanish Civil War where anti-racists and anti-fascists from all over Europe tried to stop Franco’s fascists from taking over the country.

“We want to have a peaceful counter demonstration on the day to show that Birmingham is a united, multicultural and peaceful community that does not want a group of racist and fascist thugs intimidating or attacking Muslims or any other minority group in our city.”

Meanwhile, the band have announced a new album and tour. ‘Rewind the Film’ hits shelves on September 16. If you want to catch them live, check the dates and links below to find tickets through Stereoboard
