Jay-Z Had Four-Day Argument With Kanye West Over 'Watch The Throne' Tracks

Monday, 15 July 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

American superstar Jay-Z has spilled the beans on a four day argument he got into with his best pal Kanye West, over two tracks he produced after they put out their joint record ‘Watch the Throne’.

The pair fell out over his tracks ‘Holy Grail’, which appears on Jay-Z’s latest record ‘Magna Carta... Holy Grail’, and ‘Ocean’, as West wanted both of them to appear on the ‘Watch the Throne’ album they put out in 2011. Speaking to BBC Radio One’s Zane Lowe in an interview that will be spread across this week, Jay-Z reveals all the details of their disagreement - check it out via NME below.

“We had this whole plan when me and Kanye did [the] 'Watch The Throne' album that we would go right into our solos after that. Soon as I thought we had wrapped up 'Watch The Throne', I made two records - I had 'Holy Grail' and 'Oceans'.

“[There were] no lyrics on 'Holy Grail' and I recorded 'Oceans' and I played those records for Kanye. And he was like, 'No those have to go on 'Watch The Throne’', so we spent four days arguing about those records and I was explaining to him why it wasn't right for this project and I had a whole idea for making this album called 'Magna Carta'... 'Holy Grail' [part of] the name came after.”
