ArcTanGent: The Countdown Begins

Friday, 02 August 2013 Written by Ben Bland

We’ve just caught our collective breath from 2000trees, and now the countdown begins in earnest to August’s ArcTanGent. Brought to you by members of the same festival team and taking place on the last weekend of August near Bristol, ArcTanGent focuses on the more leftfield side of the musical spectrum.

In total, 80 bands will play across three days and four stages. Headlining the Friday night are one of the UK’s most thrilling acts, both live and on record, Sheffield’s 65daysofstatic. On the eve of releasing new album ‘Wild Light’, fans can expect a show that’s visually stunning as well as musically evocative, with classics old and new sure to get an airing.

The following day’s festivities will be rounded off by electro-noise duo Fuck Buttons, whose new album ‘Slow Focus’ has received rave reviews from just about everywhere. Both these bands will be playing on the innovative Arc Stage, the tented design of which allows fans to feel like they are outdoors when in fact they can be undercover. Other acts joining them include And So I Watch You From Afar, Blacklisters, Future of the Left, Islet, Rolo Tomassi, Three Trapped Tigers and Vessels.

On Thursday night, which is only accessible via the purchase of limited early entry tickets, Leicester’s finest exports Maybeshewill will be performing a special fan-voted setlist on the Yokhai Stage with support from Amplifier and Talons. The following day will be a Damnation Festival-curated special, with performances from British alt-metal legends earthtone9 (playing their ‘ArcTanGent’ album in full, appropriately) alongside the likes of Dragged Into Sunlight, Bossk and Humanfly. Saturday, meanwhile, will see the stage graced by acts including Bo Ningen, Tall Ships and UpCDownC.

The final two stages, the Bixler and PX3 stages, will feature performances from artists including Public Service Broadcasting, Turbowolf, Arcane Roots, Brontide, Damien Schneider and Oxygen Thief over the course of Friday and Saturday. Of almost equal excitement is the presence of a well-coordinated festival timetable. A rough clashfinder has already been released so you should be able to catch as many of the fantastic musical treats ArcTanGent has to offer as possible.

Of course alongside all the amazing music at ArcTanGent you can rely on the food and drink on offer too. Locally sourced, with the same loving care that goes into providing sustenance to attendees at 2000trees, festival-goers can find a wide variety of tasty morsels to enjoy, alongside top quality ale, cider and lager. Both food and drink will also be reasonably priced, so you can rest easy in knowing that you can avoid the usual festival rip-off prices as well as having a reasonable choice.

Tickets themselves are far from a rip-off, priced at just £59 for standard weekend camping. So, with just four weeks to go until the event gets underway, we suggest it’s about time you get planning. For fans of alternative British music, ArcTanGent looks set to be an absolutely unmissable weekend. We’ll see you there!
