MTV Claim Daft Punk Pulled Out Of The Colbert Report

Wednesday, 14 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

MTV have claimed that Daft Punk cancelled an appearance on The Colbert Report on their own terms, rather than as a result of a planned slot at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Stephen Colbert - host of the comedy show - believed that the pair pulled out under the orders of MTV, as they'd be making a surprise appearance at the VMAs later this month.

Colbert told his viewers:

"Here’s the story: it’s a true story. We booked click and clack [Daft Punk] over here about a month ago. This network is owned by Viacom, which is also the owner of MTV. Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anyone, because fun fact: no one told me until two hours ago."

But now, Jesse Ignjatovic - executive producer of the VMAs - has rubbished the claims, saying the cancellation came from Daft Punk and their management.

He told The Hollywood Reporter:

"We don't put restrictions on anyone. I just think that we're talking to them about a moment and then things sort of change. I would not describe that as MTV putting restrictions on people - it was up to that artist and their management what they wanted to do."
