The Replacements Play First Gig For Almost 25 Years

Tuesday, 27 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Minnesota outfit The Replacements played their first ever live gig for 22 years on the weekend, as their return to music continues.

Considered pioneers of the alternative rock genre - one of the most popular forms of modern music - they announced in October last year that they’d got back together to record new music, and now, they’ve hit the stage for the first time in a long while too.

The band - consisting of original members Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson alongside session musicians Josh Freese and Dave Minehan - rocked out the Toronto leg of the Riot Fest on Saturday night, and wowed the audience - despite the lengthy gap between then and their last show.

Westerberg told the crowd during the audience:

“Sorry it took us so long. For 25 years we've been having a wardrobe debate… unresolved.”

The band played a 23 track strong set (you can check out the setlist below), and are scheduled to perform at the Denver and Chicago legs of the Riot Fest later this year too. Are you a fan of the band, and happy to see them return? Leave us a comment in the box below!
