Frankee Lines Up New Single Black Heart/Wonderland

Wednesday, 28 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

London-based producer Frankee has released his single ‘Black Hearts’/’Wonderland’.

The dnb newcomer has already racked up two releases on the super-sick ProgRAM label, and has now put out his first for it’s parent RAM Records - the brainchild of legendary DJ and producer Andy C.

And he hasn’t mucked about one bit - both sides of the release (which is out on vinyl and as a digital download) are brilliantly-crafted numbers that are also worlds apart in style, something you don’t see very often on one single.

The A, ‘Black Hearts’, is as the title suggests - dark, emotive, and right on the brim of rolling neurofunk. Head-nod percussion is met with a rippling bassline, and its eerie synths and enchanting vocal sample on the breakdowns make for one terrifyingly good tune that’ll definitely go off in a club.

After hearing the first track, you’ll probably be expecting a similarly murky number on the flip - but you couldn’t be further from the truth. But that doesn’t mean it’s not as epic - Frankee swaps the rolling drums for amen pressure, the gloomy-ness for sparking melody, and bass-stabs for jungle wobbles on ‘Wonderland’, and pulls it off effortlessly.
