Michael Eavis Names Johnny Cash As One Of His Best All-Time Glasto Performers

Thursday, 12 September 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Michael Eavis has named country icon Johnny Cash as his one of his favourite Glastonbury performers of all time.

Eavis is the commander-in-chief at Glastonbury and has booked some of the world's biggest performers over the years, but as you can imagine, there’s a select few who rank higher than others.

Today marks 10 years since Cash died and the music world has been paying tribute to the legend. Eavis revealed to NME that the man in black was one of his favourite artists to touch down at the festival.

“I booked Johnny Cash to play at Glastonbury in 1994. He was spellbinding, bloody brilliant. That was one of my best bookings of all time. This was when Johnny wasn't nearly as fashionable as he was after 'Hurt'. Some of the youngsters thought I'd gone crazy, as they believed I should be booking new stuff all the time.

“They thought he was just a daft old country singer. But he was so good. I can't choose one song as my favourite, I'd have a shortlist of 100.”

As you can imagine, Twitter has been full of special Cash tributes. Check out some below.
