Adele's take on Bob Dylan's Make You Feel My Love is the 'perfect love song' due to a series of determining factors, researchers have claimed.
Jacob Jolij, assistant professor in cognitive psychology and neuroscience at the University of Groningen, was enlisted, along with Maureen Crowe, president of the Guild of Music Supervisors, by Spotify to determine what makes a great love song as the streaming platform takes aim at the Valentine's Day market.
Jolij said: "You clearly hear the syncopated rhythm in the melody - it's approximately one and two and three and four and one and two and three and four and one etc. You see that there are two accents close together, repeating every bar.
"This creates the feel of a relaxed heartbeat, a sound we are very familiar with, as that is what we heard during our period in the womb. Some researchers believe this is the reason why these rhythms have a soothing and relaxing quality.’’
Spotify has also included Adele's cover, which was released on her debut album, '19', as part of a new 'Perfect Love Songs' playlist.
