Lesley Gore, the singer-songwriter who found fame as a teenager with It's My Party, has died aged 68, the Associated Press reports.
The vocalist's partner, Lois Sasson, confirmed the news to the agency on Monday. Gore, who was 16 when It's My Party hit #1 in 1963, died of lung cancer at a Manhattan hospital. Sasson told AP:
"She was a wonderful human being - caring, giving, a great feminist, great woman, great human being, great humanitarian."
Among Gore's other hits were Judy's Turn To Cry, She's A Fool and You Don't Own Me, an important feminist statement in pop culture that also became a huge hit.
