AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams has announced his retirement from the band.
His decision represents the latest in a growing line of revisions to the rock legends’ line up, following the recent exits of vocalist Brian Johnson and guitarist Malcolm Young for medical reasons and drummer Phil Rudd’s legal troubles.
In a video posted to the band’s Youtube account, Williams said that he is looking forward to spending time with his family and that hanging up his bass was not based on recent membership changes.
“It’s time for me to step out, that’s all,” he said. “Not because we’ve lost Mal, Phil or Brian, everything changes when something happens like that. When Bon [Scott] died it changed then. Everything changes, so it’s not that.” He added: “I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
AC/DC have recently been touring with Axl Rose, vocalist of Guns N' Roses, in Johnson's place.
