Heck's Matt Reynolds And Tom Marsh Share Video For Debut Single Of New Band HCBP

Monday, 03 April 2017 Written by Laura Johnson

HCBP, short for Haggard Cat Bothday Present, is a new band consisting of Heck's vocalist and guitarist Matt Reynolds and their drummer Tom Marsh.

They shared their debut single, The Patriot, last month and have now released a video for it. Speaking about the track with Kerrang!, who premiered its visual, Reynolds said:

“The Patriot is the first track on our upcoming album and also our first EVER music video so we thought we’d go big and just include everything we could think of. Some may refer to this as ’emptying our trick bag’ but we thought with attention spans at an all time low we’d better throw in the kitchen sink, so expect eagles, robots and even Jean Claude Van Damn at one point.

The song itself was inspired by a conversation with a random guy in a bar that I had late one night after a very long shift at work. I was chatting with a friend, we’d both just finished working in our respective bars and were switching horror stories from the night, just then a really drunk guy walks up to my friend and starts laying into her and telling her in great detail how he thought the bar she worked in was shit. Cue me launching into a long rant about us needing some down time too, and this late bar being our place to get that without some bozo approaching us and expecting us to pander to him like we’re still earning our measly minimal wage by the hour. A lot of drunken people behave like bar staff are here for their entertainment, they forget that we are actual human beings and that good manners are still very necessary. We’re here to help, but not here to endure as much crap as they can throw our way. In short, be polite and tip your bartender.”

The song will feature on a new album, news of which they promise is "coming very soon."

HCBP will support Jamie Lenman at the Manchester, London, Milton Keynes, Leeds and Glasgow shows on his upcoming UK tour. They will also appear at ArcTanGent and Camden Rocks this summer.
