PWR BTTM have addressed a series of allegations levelled at Ben Hopkins.
The accusations include sexual assault, bullying and anti-semitism, the latter of which Hopkins first commented on back in December.
They were posted in a private Facebook group called DIY Chicago before being picked up by users on Reddit and Twitter. They allege that Hopkins is a “known sexual predator, perpetrator of multiple assaults”.
Hopkins and their bandmate Liv Bruce, who release ‘Pageant’ today, responded with a statement posted to Facebook. Read that below.
UPDATE: Touring members and support acts for PWR BTTM’s forthcoming live plans have severed ties with the band. Tancred, T-Rextasy and Nnamdi Ogbonnaya have all scratched opening slots following the allegations, while Cameron West and Nicholas Cummins have confirmed their exits from the setup. The band have also been pulled from Bled Fest and Hopscotch music festivals.
“From my understanding, these accusations were in fact levied via e-mail months ago, but were left unshared with other members of the band, including myself,” West wrote on Facebook. “In order to provide the highest possible respect to everyone who has come forward, I am hereby ending my tenure with the band as an arranger and touring musician.”
Cummins wrote on Twitter: "i'll say what i told ben; while i will never dispose of them as a human, i fully believe all accusations that came up today. regardless of their intent it's clear that multiple people had their boundaries crossed. that's incredibly unacceptable and needs to be acknowledged."
