Butch Vig's new project, 5 Billion In Diamonds, have shared a new single.
Travelling, which features vocals from Alpha's Helen White, is lifted from the the band's self-titled LP, which was produced and composed by the Garbage drummer, DJ James Grillo and Andy Jenks. Speaking about it, Vig said:
"Traveling was the first song we wrote in 5BID. James and I came up with a couple dreamy guitar loops, which inspired Andy to record all these amazing groovalicious keyboards, which inspired me to track some funky drums and to bring Justin Meldal-Johnson (NIN, BECK) in on bass. The track evolved over a couple months, but it wasn’t until Helen wrote and recorded her vocals that the song was completely transformed. Channeling hints of the Cocteau Twins, Free Design and french singers Mireille Mathieu and Francoise Hardy, Helen took the song to another level and raised the bar for all the 5BID songs to come!"
The record, which is due out tomorrow, also boasts contributions from guitarist Alex Lee of Goldfrapp, Strangelove and Suede, bassist Sean Cook and drummer Damon Reece, of Spiritualized, Massive Attack and Elizabeth Fraser, and vocals by Ebbott Lundberg of Soundtrack of Our Lives, Sandra Dedrick of the Free Design and David Schelzel of The Ocean Blue.
