Neil Diamond Cancels Australian And New Zealand Concerts, Retires From Touring

Tuesday, 23 January 2018 Written by Jon Stickler

Neil Diamond has cancelled the remaining dates on his 50th Anniversary Tour after announcing he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

Confirming the news just days before his 77th birthday, the legendary singer-songwriter will retire from touring but will continue his writing, recording and development of new projects. In a statement posted to his official website, Diamond said:

"It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring. I have been so honoured to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years.

"My sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows.

"I plan to remain active in writing, recording and other projects for a long time to come.

"My thanks goes out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world. You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement. This ride has been 'so good, so good, so good' thanks to you."

Diamond, who rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s and also wrote tunes for pop group the Monkees, will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement award at Sunday's 60th Grammy Awards.
