Details Of 'An American Treasure' Tom Petty Collection Announced

Wednesday, 11 July 2018 Written by Laura Johnson

A box set collection of previously unreleased Tom Petty material has been announced.

'An American Treasure' will arrive on September 28 through Reprise Records and will consist of 60 newly found recordings, including previously unreleased recordings, alternate versions, rarities, live performances and deep cuts. It is the first posthumous release since Petty's passing on October 2 last year, aged 66.

The collection was put put together by the legendary singer-songwriter's daughter, Adria Petty, his wife, Dana, the Heartbreakers' Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and Petty's studio collaborator, Ryan Ulyate. Discussing it, Adria and Dana Petty said:

“Everyone involved in this project chose each track with tremendous care and deep respect for the body of work Tom Petty created over the course of 40 years.  He also accumulated a wealth of unreleased music in his vaults, and we have collectively uncovered one gem after another that will keep us all listening and discovering new facets of Tom’s talent for many years to come.  We can’t wait to share with Tom’s fans this musical portrait of an artist who deeply affected our culture and indelibly touched the lives of fans the world over.”
