Beirut Announces New Album 'Gallipoli' And World Tour Dates

Monday, 22 October 2018 Written by Laura Johnson

Beirut will return with a new album early next year.

Zach Condon has announced plans to follow up 2015's 'No No No' with 'Gallipoli' on February 11 and called on producer Gabe Wax to join him once again. Head here for a detailed statement from Condon about the making of the album.

He will support it with a North American tour that will kick off on February 10 in New York and wrap up in Los Angeles on March 5. He will then head to Europe on March 30 for two nights at Funkhaus in Berlin before calling in Brussels, Groningen, Paris, Cologne, Utrecht, Manchester, Leeds, London, Vienna, Munich, Milan and Zurich. Tickets for all dates go on sale on October 26 at 10am local time.

Head below to listen to the record's title track, which was written and recorded in one 10 hour sitting following Condon joining a brass band procession in the town of the same name. Perhaps unsurprisingly, then, the track opens with a huge brass composition, while throughout there is a drum pulsing like a heartbeat and Condon's vocals take a backseat to the rich instrumentation.

Beirut - Gallipoli (Album Review)
Fri 08 Feb 2019
Zach Condon’s fifth album as Beirut is an elegant, if twee, manifestation of his signature sound: sweet melodies woven into culturally diverse arrangements and boxy, distinctive production. It’s a decent record that will reward diehard fans, but it also somehow feels locked in the late ‘00s with Fleet Foxes and the Shins.

The National - I Am Easy To Find (Album Review)
Fri 31 May 2019
As we’ve come to know the National over the last two decades, we’ve also become familiar with the different facets of Matt Berninger’s appeal. If we were to split the frontman’s charm into thirds, to one side we’d have his lackadaisical, sometimes off-kilter delivery, in the middle his all-hell-breaking-loose animalistic shrieks, and to the other side his highly visual lyrical style.

Matthew and the Atlas - Morning Dancer (Album Review)
Fri 10 May 2019
Three albums in and Matthew and the Atlas seem to be in a position to capitalise on all aspects of their previous work. Matt Hegarty’s adventure started with some folky EPs, followed by the synth-based 2014 debut album ‘Other Rivers’. ‘Temple’ then retreated to a more stripped down approach, but with ‘Morning Dancer’ we’re treated to a more eclectic collection.
