The National's Matt Berninger and singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers have teamed up for a collaborative track.

Walking On A String was co-written by Berninger, his wife, writer Carin Besser, and musician Mike Brewer for the Zach Galifianakis film Between Two Ferns: The Movie, released on Netflix in September.

The duo recorded it at Sound City in Los Angeles with guitarist Walter Martin, Matt Barrick of the Walkmen on drums, while production was handled by Bridgers alongside Tony Bery and Ethan Gruska.

Head below to listen to the song, which builds to a grand climax. It comes with a black and white video, which was directed, filmed and edited by Berninger's brother Tom with Chris Sgroi.

Bridgers returns to the UK to headline Mirrors Festival at the Roundhouse in London on November 2. She also joins the National on their tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2020, while opening for them in the UK will be Jenny Lewis.

Elbow - Giants Of All Sizes (Album Review)
Thu 17 Oct 2019
We’re currently living through a time that’s as mystifying as it is terrifying.  Can any artist adequately convey that, and where would they begin? With the current state of our world leaders, or a certain referendum result and the ensuing madness? Possibly the devastation caused by unfathomable tragedies and senseless acts of terrorism? Fearlessly addressing those issues and more, Elbow’s ‘Giants Of All Sizes’ is a scalding state of the nation address and a prayer for a society that’s seemingly teetering on the brink of destruction.
