Coldplay Release New Single Higher Power

Friday, 07 May 2021 Written by Laura Johnson

Coldplay have released their new single.

Following a series of online teasers, Higher Power was premiered via an "Extraterrestrial Transmission performance" that was broadcast to French ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who is currently on board the International Space Station.

Prior to the premiere, Pesquet and the band chatted about life on the road compared to that on the International Space Station, among other things. Watch the conversation here and head below for the performance.

Higher Power channels '80s pop-rock with rousing synths leading the earworm chorus — this is Coldplay's Dancing In The Dark. It's currently unclear if the track will feature on an upcoming album, their last being 2019's 'Everyday Life'.

Coldplay will perform the single on American Idol on Sunday (May 9) and at the BRIT Awards on Tuesday (May 11). They are also due to play a set at Glastonbury’s Live At Worthy Farm livestream event on May 22.
