The Academic have announced their second studio album and a new tour.

The follow-up to 2018's debut 'Tales From The Backseat' is called 'Sitting Pretty' and will arrive on February 10. Commenting on the inspiration behind the album, the Irish four-piece explained:

"It’s about the entrance into true adulthood and how that can alienate you from yourself, making you feel like you're playing a supporting role in your own life. In one moment, feeling 100% certain about everything, only to become overwhelmed with feelings of aimlessness and lack of direction in the next.

"Ultimately it’s about finding your feet, feeling the weight of time passing on your shoulders, and trying to enjoy the good times and meaningful relationships along the way."

Alongside the news, the band have shared the new pop-leaning, indie-rock track, Pushing Up Daisies, which follows August's Don’t Take It Personally. They added: "Pushing Up Daisies is our ode to insecurity and ego in equal measure. It tackles the hectic nature of our current circumstances. The ecstatic highs and the unbearable lows of life in your twenties."

They'll support the LP with shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London, where they'll play the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on February 24. Tickets go on general sale at 9am on November 3.

1. Pushing Up Daisies
