The London group follow in the footsteps of previous winners PinkPantheress, Pa Salieu, Celeste, Octavian, Sigrid, Years & Years, Sam Smith, Adele, Ellie Goulding, Michael Kiwanuka and Jessie J, among others.
Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma and Renée Downer were chosen by a panel of over 130 industry experts and artists, seeing off competition from Fred Again.., Nia Archives, Cat Burns, Gabriels, Asake, Biig Piig, Dylan, Piri & Tommy, and Rachel Chinouriri.
In a statement about the win, the trio said:
"Wow, we did it! To win this accolade not even a year after we released our debut single Cardboard Box is wild. We feel so connected to our British music roots winning BBC Radio 1’s Sound Of and admire the artists who have come before us, especially our gal PinkPantheress winning last year! Thank you to everyone who voted for us and put girl groups back on the map. To be recognised for our music and people to believe in our vision inspires us to go further this year! 2023 we’re ready!"
FLO shared their latest single, Losing You, in December. Earlier that month, they were crowned the winner of the Brit Awards' Rising Star prize, becoming the first group to receive the prestigious award.
They dropped their debut single, Cardboard Box, in March 2022, followed by their debut EP, 'The Lead', in July. They were also nominated for Best Newcomer at last year's MOBO Awards. They'll play shows in London and Manchester in March and April, respectively. Tickets are on sale.
