Yard Act have announced their third album.

The follow-up to 2024's 'Where’s My Utopia?' is titled 'You’re Gonna Need A Little Music' and will arrive through Island Records on July 17.

Recorded between the Mercury Prize-nominated band's hometown of Leeds and Los Angeles with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen, whose credits include Nine Inch Nails, Beck and St. Vincent, the album is described as their most lively and collaborative work so far, though it also includes some of their darkest, most cynical moments. It also marks the first time the band has created an album together as a live band in the same room.

"The first two records were both laptop records essentially," frontman James Smith explained. Their debut, 'The Overload', was penned before the band had fully come together, and its follow-up, 'Where’s My Utopia?,' was created in short bursts while on tour and in hotel rooms during a busy schedule of, "slinging [all our gear] in the rehearsal space, going back home, and then a week later piling it back into a van again."

On working in the same studio together for an “uninterrupted five month period" and creating "40 or 50 songs" with no external pressure, Smith said "it felt like freedom. It felt like everything I’d wanted from being in a band."

Alongside the announcement, Yard Act have shared the first single from the album, Redeemer, which delivers a darker, more brooding sound around a prominent bassline and Smith's poetic, spoken-word lyrical style.

They've also scheduled a UK tour alongside their previously announced shows in Leeds, Manchester and London in November, including a second date added at the O2 Academy Leeds. The UK run will follow European dates in June, shows in North America throughout August and another round of dates in Europe in October.

Tickets for the new UK shows go on general sale at 10am on May 15. All other dates are on sale now.
