Its that time of year again folks, the nominations for this year’s BRIT Award ceremony have been revealed with Lily Allen and Florence & The Machine and more leading the way.

The world famous BRIT Awards attract stars from all over the world, the event is broadcast on TV to an audience of millions and the event itself is regarded as one of the most important ceremonies on the music industry’s calendar. This year the awards ceremony, which usually never proceed without incident, are returning bigger and better than ever.

Ahead of the actual event in Earls Court, a full list of nominations was announced last night (January 18th). This year, female talent appears to dominate with outspoken pop princess Lily Allen getting three nominations. Other acts casting big shadows over the categories are Lady GaGa, Pixie Lott and Florence And The Machine.

Allen is up for ‘British Female Solo Artist’ as well as ‘British Album’ and ‘British Single’. She faces tough competition from Florence And The Machine, who won an award last year’s ceremony, who is also nominated for ‘British Female Solo Artist’, along with ‘British Album’ and ‘British Breakthrough Act’.

The ‘British Group’ category seems to be a tough one to call with Doves, Kasabian, Friendly Fires, Muse and – quite bizarrely – JLS. Four quality acts that have all had a memorable year in music. And JLS.

This year, the event has included a special twist with a new category being set up for ‘Most Memorable BRITs Performance Of 30 Years’. The new category has been set up to commemorate the anniversary of the awards. I’m wondering if Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox might be in with a shout for that award? Just a thought!
