McCartney 'Nearly' Joined Them Crooked Vultures

Former fab four member Sir Paul McCartney has spoken out, announcing that he nearly joined supergroup Them Crooked Vultures.

The supergroup has well and truly been revived. During the late 1960s it seemed as though every top artist enjoyed closing ranks, with bands such as Cream, Traffic, Big Brother Holding Company and more were shaking the music world to the core. The trend suddenly surfaced once again last year with the emergence of the likes of The Dead Weather and Them Crooked Vultures releasing hugely anticipated albums.

Them Crooked Vultures were formed by Josh Homme and Dave Grohl, both huge talents with each of their bands Queens Of The Stone Age and The Foo Fighters. During the recruitment stages the stateside pair turned their attention to legendary Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones to complete the trio. Releasing their debut album to an almost instant success, having been the most talked about band of last year, the group could be an ongoing project.

Now, during a new interview with the Daily Mail, iconic musician and former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney revealed that he could have joined Homme and Grohl to form the band. He spoke about having dinner with Dave Grohl after last year’s Grammy Awards when the project was mentioned. "We went out for a bite to eat afterwards and Dave told me he was starting this band with Josh (Homme)," he told the newspaper. "I asked him who was playing bass and he rather sheepishly told me he'd approached John. So you read it here first; Paul McCartney was nearly the bass player in Them Crooked Vultures."

The star also spoke about his television appearance on the final of X Factor last year. "When the offer came through it polarised a lot of people. Lots of my friends told me not to do it and it's not exactly Jools Holland" he claimed. "It's a pop show. But what turned me around - apart from the huge audience - was the fact that it's a family show, and so many kids I know are obsessed by it." The star’s appearance on the show caused fevered discussion between fans.
