Pete Doherty Arrested For Drugs Possesion Following Court Appearance

It would seem that it is impossible for Pete Doherty to stay out of the headlines for any reasonable length of time with the indie icon now being re-arrested and fined for possessing heroin at a court hearing.

Perhaps it’s a case of ‘it never rains but pours’ for Doherty who was summoned to a Gloucestershire court earlier this year for a hearing. Given the star’s track record you may think that’s not really anything new, but whilst the singer was being frisked by police on his way into the building, a package fell from his pocket.

Any guesses on what the package was? That’s right, you’ve guessed it, a package full of drugs. Astonishing. The plastic bag contained 13 individual wraps of heroin, and despite being released from court regarding a previous charge Pete Doherty was re-arrested immediately.

As a result of his stupidity, in a hearing in the same court, Pete Doherty wound up with a £750 fine for the possession of the heroin. The singer, who was 40 minutes later for the hearing, claimed that he simply forgot – like you do – that he had heroin in his pocket.

Questioning Doherty’s motives, district Judge Joti Bopa Rai remarked. “Either this was sheer stupidity or a ploy to get more publicity”.

Reports from BBC News have claimed that the singer’s lawyer Bruce Clark has denied the allegations that Doherty has taken drugs to court on purpose and In addition to the £750 fine, Judge Bopa Rai ordered the singer to pay his previous fine immediately. Never one to be short of excuses, Doherty said he relied on his accountant to arrange the previous payment but Judge Bopa Rai explained that it was Doherty’s responsibility.

After a string of negative headlines involving Doherty, this incident hopefully brings an end to a year of misfortune for the singer who was arrested twice in one week last year.

With a rejuvenated Babyshambles working on a new album shortly, 2010 should hopefully see Pete Doherty spending more time in the recording studio than in the court room.
