Sharleen Spiteri Confirms Two Scottish Performances & Tickets

Leading lady from million-selling UK pop rock band Texas, Sharleen Spiteri, has confirmed plans that she will play two Scottish shows in May this year.

Co-founding Texas in 1986 and scoring three multi-platinum albums and 13 top ten hits with the group, Sharleen Spiteri turned her hand to performing as a solo artist in 2008. Her first album ‘Melody’ debuted at number 3 on the UK Album Chart.

In the wake of the success of her debut solo album, in early 2009 Spiteri confirmed details of her second solo record ‘The Movie Songbook’. Released earlier this month on March 1st, the album features a variety of movie covers chosen by the singer, it includes a cover version of “Xanadu” which was selected as the lead single from the album. Other songs included on the album include “Take My Breath Away”, “Pretty Woman” and “What’s New Pussycat”.

Speaking about the new album, Sharleen Spiteri had this to say: "That's where it started, I realised that things were coming full circle. When we formed Texas, we took our name from a film - Paris, Texas. And here I was all these years later singing these film songs. Suddenly the idea of a whole album of songs from movies just seemed like a great idea and a fun thing to do.”

The singer also brought up the subject of possibly some new material from her previous group group Texas. Continuing about her new found singing style on ‘The Movie Songbook’ Spiteri said: "Making this album has taught me that my true voice lies in this area and not to be scared of using it. In the past I've always tended to go into a soul area but this experience has been great in taking me places I'd never normally go. It's been a valuable lesson in other styles and new ways of working. I feel excited about taking that forward into Texas and wherever it is we go next."

Sharleen Spiteri will play the following UK dates:

May 2010

28th Aberdeen Music Hall
31st Glasgow Royal Concert Hall

Tickets are on sale now priced from £27.50.
