The English Beat are an English 2-Tone ska band from Birmingham, consisting of frontman Dave Wakeling, drummer Nucci Cantrell, saxophonist Matt Morrish, keyboard players Kevin Lum and Minh Quan, Brad Engstrom on brass and King Schascha.
Originally formed in 1978, under the name The Beat, the band released their debut album, ‘I Just Can't Stop It’ in 1980, followed by ‘Wha'ppen?’ in 1981 and ‘Special Beat Service’ in 1982, before splitting in 1983. The band now have two factions with founding member Dave Wakeling performing in the USA as The English Beat starring Dave Wakeling, alongside founding member Ranking Roger’s The Beat feat Ranking Roger in the UK. The band are set to release the album, ‘Here We Go Love’, in 2017. Both factions of the band will be performing in the US this summer, with Wakeling's touring in summer and Ranking Roger's co-headlining a tour with The Selecter later in the year.
