Metallica's Lars Ulrich Says Arctic Monkeys Are 'Heavy Metal Band In Disguise'

Lars Ulrich, drummer of thrash metal titans Metallica, has backed up the band’s decision to add British outfit Arctic Monkeys to their Orion Music Festival line-up later this year – and described them as a ‘heavy metal band disguised as an indie band’.

The world-famous metalheads will be putting on their first ever music festival later this June and have decided to add the Arctic Monkeys to the line-up alongside their array of metal and rock bands. But, Ulrich has defended the decision, and claimed that the Monkeys are as good a metal band has his own, and is happy to have signed the Sheffield-based group up for the festival.

“For me, having the Arctic Monkeys on there is big,” Ulrich told Rolling Stone. “I think they're a heavy metal band disguised as an indie band. If you listen to a song like 'Perhaps Vampires is a Bit Strong But...' there's almost a Rush element in there.”

He went on to talk about convincing Avenged Sevenfold to perform, and said: “Avenged Sevenfold are near and dear to me. They were on the fence about it. They were taking the summer off. I called one of the guys and said, 'It would really mean a lot to us'.”

The festival is set to take place on June 23rd-24th in Bader Field, New Jersey, and will feature Metallica headlining both nights and bands like The Gaslight Anthem, Fucked Up and many more supporting. You can also catch Metallica at Download Festival this weekend, performing their seminal Black Album in full. Click here to Compare & Buy Metallica Tickets at Stereoboard.
