John Lennon's Killer Up For Parole

Having gunned down former Beatle John Lennon outside his New York home nearly 30 years ago, Killer Mark Chapman has once again applied for parole.
John Lennon was an ambassador for peace. He spent most of life dedicating his time to campaigning for peace and having split from the Beatles he went on to release a protest single, ‘Give Peace a Chance’, during the height of the Vietnam War.
Shocking millions of people worldwide, Liverpool born Lennon was tragically killed outside his home in New York City in December 1980. Shot dead by lone gunman Mark Chapman, Lennon was just forty years old.
Found guilty in 1981, Chapman was sentenced to life imprisonment with an allowance to apply for parole after serving his first 20 years behind bars. Having applied every two years since 2000, Chapman has once again launched another parole attempt. The New York Daily News reports that Chapman, now 55, has decided to lodge another parole attempt on the grounds that he has kept a clean prison record since 1994 and has been denied parole on a previous five occasions.
Meanwhile, nearly 30 years following his death, the John Lennon’s life is still celebrated. Fans are being invited to contribute to two time capsules that will then be buried to coincide with what would be Lennon’s 70th birthday. The time capsules will later be opened 100 years after the birth of the Beatles legend.
