A Facebook campaign has started to get statues erected in honour of Stoke-on-Trent’s two most famous sons, Lemmy Kilmister and Slash.
Born in Burslem and brought up in the city, Lemmy Kilmister, the iconic frontman for Motorhead, and Saul Hudson, better known as Slash, are two of the most iconic figures ever to emerge from the rock’n’roll world. Staffordshire University student and campaign creator, Nile Plumb, believes the two rock legends should be honoured within their native city.
Having sold countless amounts of records and each forming two of the most popular, notorious rock groups ever, Motorhead and Guns N Roses, Plumb and many other fans believe both Lemmy and Slash should be immortalised in stone as recognition of their achievements in the music world.
To date the Facebook campaign has attracted support from more than 700 people and speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Nile Plumb had this to say about the internet drive: “There’s a lot of interest and people really want to get behind it.”
Inspired by last year’s victorious campaign to topple Simon Cowell and X-Factor’s dominance of the UK Christmas Number One, Nile says that the success of Jon and Tracey’s ‘Rage Against The X Factor Christmas No.1’ led him to gather some online support for the campaign.
As yet there has been no talk of where in the Stoke the statues could be situated or what they might look like.
