Bez Jailed For Assault Following Court Outburst

Happy Mondays star Bez (pictured left) has been jailed for one month after assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a fight over money.

Stereoboard recently reported that dance star of the Happy Mondays Bez, real name Mark Berry, had been found guilty of assault on his ex-girlfriend after he tried to strangle her during a vicious fight at their Manchester home on May 24th.

Having accused Monica Ward, his ex-girlfriend and mother of his two-year-old son, of stealing cash he earned at a gig the night before, Bez flipped into an “insane” rage, kicked down a door and attempted to throttle Ward by putting his hands around her neck. Despite claiming he was acting in self-defence, Berry was found guilty of assault and appeared in court yesterday to face his sentence.

Manchester Magistrates initially gave Bez a community order asking the dancer to pay £450 in costs. However, once Bez had responded with “I’m not doing it. Bothered. I’m going to appeal and take this to a real court,” Chair of the Magistrates then told the former Celebrity Big Brother winner that, for his rant, he was now going to spend four weeks in jail! As Bez was handcuffed and taken away to the cells, MailOnline reports that the star shouted, “Victory is in my grasp!”

Having also been convicted of using unlawful violence to gain entry into their home, as well as the jail sentence, Bez has been given a restraining order that will prevent him from contacting Ward for five years.
