Happy Mondays is an English indie pop band from Salford, Greater Manchester, consisting of Shaun Ryder, Bez, Gary Whelan, Mark Day, Paul Ryder and Rowetta.
Formed in 1980, the band were discovered by Tony Wilson after a battle of the bands contest at the Hacienda, and released their debut album, ‘Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out)’ in 1987.
Their second album ‘Bummed’ came out in 1988, but it was their third release ‘Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches’, in 1990, that saw them achieve wider commercial success, featuring Top 5 hits such as Step On and Kinky Afro. The band released ‘Yes Please’ in 1992, before splitting in 1993. The band returned in 1999, releasing the album, ‘Uncle Dysfunktional’ in 2007.
After a 30th anniversary tour last year, Happy Mondays played Doncaster Racecourse in May 2018, followed by Zebedee's Yard in Hull in the summer with special guests Peter Hook and The Light.
Next up, Happy Mondays are set to head Down Under for a special tour in February and March 2019, where they'll be laying ‘Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches’ in full. Catch them live by checking out the tour dates and ticket information below on Stereoboard.
