The Jam’s Classic Album ‘Sound Affects’ to be Re-Released Next Month

Thursday, 14 October 2010 Written by Rob Sleigh

The Jam’s fifth album ‘Sound Affects’ is to be reissued next month on the 30th anniversary of its release. The Deluxe Edition of the classic album, which first went on sale in November 1980, is set to be re-released as a Deluxe Edition on 1st November.

‘Sound Affects’ includes several of The Jam’s most well-known songs, such as ‘That’s Entertainment’ and their second Number One single ‘Start!’. The Deluxe Edition is to be released as a double album, which will contain a digitally remastered version of the original. The second disc features 22 bonus tracks, including previously unreleased songs, demos and a cover of ‘Waterloo Sunset’ by the Kinks.

Paul Weller recently said of the album: “I still feel it was our best record. To me, it still sounds fresh.”

According to Weller, when he went to make his recent solo album ‘Wake Up the Nation’, producer Simon Dine wanted to use ‘Sound Affects’ as a model. “That was the sort of sound he imagined we should be going for - hard, metallic, quite stripped-down… jagged.”
