Westlife Get Out The Claws Over JLS Condom Endorsement

Long-time pop crooners Westlife hardly seem like the volatile type. The band have made a career out of their boys-next-door image, appearing conservative in interviews and generally acting like men that you wouldn’t mind introducing to your grandmother.
However, the Irish singers appear to have taken a swipe at this year’s breakthrough artists JLS, criticising their choice to endorse a range of celebrity condoms. Singer Mark Feehily said: ‘It does make you think what the f*** are they doing? Seriously, used condoms is a lovely thing to think about when you think of JLS. So, will girls be going to their boyfriends, “Sorry, tonight babe, do you mind using the one with Aston’s face on it?”’
Shane Filan added: ‘They obviously got paid loads of money to do it and just went, ‘OK.’’
However, the Westlife boys did confess to having made their own commercial faux-pas or two in the past. Nicky Byrne declared: ‘We had chocolate bars back in our day.’ The band then admitted they were approached to endorse condoms, joking about a tie-in with their aptly named new single Safe, due out on November 8.
‘We might release our own contraceptive pill!’ joked Feehily.
While tabloid reports are (surprisingly) poking the cage for a fully-fledged fued between the bands, it is unlikely that the comments were meant as anything other than constructive criticism. Both Westlife and JLS have admitted their appreciation for each other as artists in recent interviews.
