Rock supergroup Arcade Fire have unveiled the video for their upcoming single, ‘The Suburbs’, online. The video is directed by Spike Jonze, who recruited the group last year for his blockbuster film project, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’.
The first half of the video depicts a simple enough vision of teenage suburban life: a group of youngsters cycle through the town, shooting air rifles and just generally being, you know, quirky . However, Jonze comes into his creative element as the video quickly evolves into a dark and disturbing triumph, depicting the potential brutality in his everyday American environment.
The video is admittedly slightly underwhelming if compared to the extended film that the band and Jonze had previously hinted at, however as far as promotional videos go, there’s definitely something special about it. Be sure to look out for cameo appearances from band members Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, who appear as police officers.
‘The Suburbs’ is the title track and the latest release from Arcade Fire’s latest album, which was released in August. The album achieved Number One in the UK and US Album charts: a truly impressive feat for an independently-released rock album.
The song will be released on December 20th. You can view the video for Arcade Fire’s ‘The Suburbs’ below:
