Take That’s Howard Donald has failed to maintain an injunction which would have stopped the press from reporting details of his relationship with an ex-girlfriend.
Lord Justice Maurice Kay lifted the ban earlier this week, which originally prohibited the press from even mentioning the names of Howard Donald and Adakini Ntuli, the two parties involved. The superinjunction was granted in April by Mr Justice Eady after Donald seeked to prevent the publication of details involving his relationship with Ntuli.
The initial injunction was originally requested after Donald received this text from his ex-girlfriend: ”Why shud I continue 2 suffer financially 4 the sake of loyalty when selling my story will sort my life out?”. Ntuli had initially hired notorious publicist Max Clifford and approached the News of the World before the ban was put in place.
Now that the superinjunction has been lifted, both parties involved can be named by the press, however the initial injunction still remains so Ntuli is unable to sell her story just yet. Unfortunately for the Take That star, the case itself has sparked a frenzy of tabloid attention, so when the ban is eventually lifted it is all but inevitable that the story will be publicised.
The case is one in a string of legal proceedings involving the controversial process of injunctions. Most recently, John Terry had a superinjunction lifted in January which culminated in a storm of media attention over his relationship with Wayne Bridge’s ex-girlfriend.
Despite the controversy, Donald will no doubt be distracted by his Take That responsibilities this week. As well as making several media appearances for their new album and tour, the band are also set to perform on tonight’s 'Children in Need' alongside the likes of Cheryl Cole and JLS.
